Truly An 'Out of Africa' Experience

Ruaha National Park is located about 134 km from Iringa town.  Considered to be 'off the beaten track'  it is still exceptionally wild and undisturbed. It is indeed a pristine wilderness teeming with game, wonderful vistas and masses of birds.

Its main selling point is the fact that at times it feels as if you have the park to yourself as there are no convoys of safari cars like in the Northern parks.

The Ruaha landscape is estimated to hold just under one-tenth of the all the lions left in Sub-Saharan Africa, while it supports the third-biggest population of endangered African wild dogs left in the world, and one of only four big cheetah populations left in East Africa.

Ruaha is Tanzania's largest park and the 2nd largest park in Africa with an area of about 23 000 square kms. The name Ruaha originates from the Kihehe word Ruavaha which means River. The Great Ruaha River which runs along the entire length of the park's southern boundary follows an ancient finger of the Great Rift Valley system and is a lifeline for the park during the dry season.
